Emerging Technologies and Nuance Healthcare are proud to announce that SKMC in Abu Dhabi has completed the implementation of a hospital-wide electronic speech infrastructure for all of their 500 doctors.

The departments of radiology and pathology are now fully speech-enabled; all doctors use online speech recognition. Other departments use a mix of speech recognition and digital dictation. After only one month working with speech recognition, the volume of radiology reports transcribed by transcriptionists dropped from an average of 10,000 to 150 and the turnaround time for radiology reports went down from 3 days to a few hours.

Transcription “back-log” is now at 2 hours and 12 minutes of dictation, which means that SKMC medical transcriptionists are transcribing almost in real-time. With speech recognition, SKMC today delivers information management at its best to the benefit of their patients.
